Step Seven

December 19th, 2006 at 09:34 pm

I wish I could give. This is what I do and I hope it would be considered giving although it is not much. I hope someone would consider it my trying to observe the seventh step. For quite awhile I have supported two little girls, one in Kenya and one in Brazil, through the Christian Children's Fund. I have chosen this as my outreach. I know that by the world's standards it is probably not enough. It is not a tithe. If I could ever get rid of those medical bills I could do so much better. This $20,000 income is for the birds! But working through CCF warms my heart.

...it might not seem much to you, but, in our countries, your money goes a long way!...you ARE making a difference in those little kids lives!

We did that for many years both at home and abroad at different times. I felt that we should give back for two healthy kids. Kudos to you for helping the children! And I know you are making a difference!

i think you are making a great difference too... don't worry if you can't do as much as others or as much as you'd like... at least you are doing something...

I understand your pain it's hard to balance your bills to the problems of the world but know that your small part helps. You are doing much more than most people will ever do in lives. Doing something means everything to those children. Doing nothing means life and death to them, go and be proud of what you do, but do brag of this. It's between God and you.

I am in the fundraising "biz." It has made me aware of how many people there are with staggering wealth. In my opinion, it is their responsibility to give back (though I never tell them that!), and they can make huge gifts without even affecting their lifestyles very much.

On the other hand there are people like us, who have to cut deep into our budgets to give a little. I say, give what you need to give to feel that you are contributing, but remember that most charities are 80% supported by the super-wealthy. Don't feel guilty if you can't afford to give what you would like to give.
